In sixteen months of acting, he left a more lasting impression on the public than many stars do in thirty years. - Henry Ginsberg

His film career was one of the most brilliant and one of the most spectacularly brief in history. He was more like a comet than a star. - Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

To me, the only success, the only greatness for a man is immortality. To have your work remembered in history, to leave something in this world that will last for centuries… that’s greatness. - James Dean (Feb. 8, 1931 - Sept. 30, 1955)

I’ve tried to understand why, even though Jimmy is dead, there are so many people who feel that he is living. I think the secret is that Jimmy’s personality was so strong as to be unforgettable. I know people who have only seen him on the screen, but they were as affected by his character and his attitude toward life as if they had known him. They say that he existed so forcefully that when they heard his name or saw his picture, something inside their hearts and minds would become active. - Nick Adams

59 years ago today we lost James Dean, a Mid-Western dream, the pioneer of teenage rebellion, a talent like no other, and a hero who captured the hearts of so many people, bringing hundreds of strangers together creating bonds of friendship that will truly last a lifetime! I hate to reminisce about his death, because today we should celebrate the life he led, the things he did. I do wish that crash never happened, but I do know if things didn’t happen the way it did we wouldn’t all be gathering in his hometown every year, it makes the pain of Jimmy being gone a lot easier when you have dear friends together to focus on the good and not so much the bad. I will always be proud to be a fan of Jimmy, there is no one like him, and never will be.
"I liken it to a kind of star, or comet that fell through the sky and everybody still talks about it, they say ‘Remember that night, when that…when you saw that shooting star?’ That was it, I mean, he had that enormous appeal, and magic.” -Julie Harris
